Nomad Aran
Welcome to our shelves, Nomad Farms! We are so pleased to be stocking this very special yarn, and can't wait to share it with you.
Uniquely, every step of production has been done locally. The wool is grown on their organically raised Polwarth sheep, using regenerative farming practices. It is cleaned, milled and spun in Victoria and naturally hand dyed with plants (mostly) grown at Nomad Farms by Verity.
They take care in minimising the environmental and social impacts every step of the way. Their product is 100% traceable, supports local small businesses and leaves minimal waste and environmental damage. The botanical colours are all natural and guaranteed that no harsh chemicals have been used so again, land and human health wins!
As for the 10ply yarn, the texture is oh-so-soft and incredibly plump! An absolute dream to work with, we'd recommend it for super squishy accessories and yummy, cozy garments - particularly vests! We'd like to note that this yarn is very plump for a 10ply, and we'd say it borders on a 12ply/chunky weight.
As mentioned, this yarn has been botanically dyed with plants (a first for our store!). Verity has a wonderful knack with these colours, and has dyed us up a beautifully rich rainbow using Native Indigo, Wattle, Madder and more. All of the semi-solid shades work fabulously with each other and make a great palette for colourwork projects - or let them shine on their own!
A note on Crocking: Some colour may wear on your hands when knitting or when initially washed, particularly with the Indigo and Logwood colourways. This is called crocking (Verity has some great info on her website). Be rest assured, crocking will settle, it should easily wash off your hands and is only plant molecules not harsh chemicals. Although crocking should settle after the first wash/blocking, sometimes a second wash is needed. Crocking does not mean your yarn colour will run and can be knitted in colour work etc. with confidence, but if this doesn't sound like your jam, just choose one of the lighter colours.
You can also find the 8ply version of this yarn here!

This yarn comes in skeins that will need to be wound before using. Add Ball Winding to your order and we will take care of it for you, or enjoy the slow meditative process of hand winding at home.
Please note: We try to ensure that the colours on our website are accurate, but they can look different from screen to screen.
Additionally, as botanic dyes are used to create this yarn, there will be some colour variation between dye batches (as with most handdyed yarns). If you require exactly the same colour for one project, please purchase together to ensure skeins are from the same batch.
